Epson DiscProducer Disc Duplication and Printing System

Epson Duplicator Discproducer PP-100Well, I’ve been a very bad blogger recently… hardly writing much of anything… so I thought I’d post this interesting bit about Epson’s new Disc Producer system. It’s a desktop CD/DVD disc publisher that is designed to burn and print up to 100 customized CDs or DVDs on demand. And, with one set of high-capacity ink cartridges, it’s reported to create over 1,000 discs, which is a lot more than I get with my current sytem. Discproducer features a built-in 6-color inkjet printer, with Epson’s MicroPiezo® technology, and Total Disc Maker software that lets you format data, edit labels and control the production process all from one application.

1. Ink level status LED

2. Six separate ink cartridges

3. Three media trays for runs of up to 100

4. Robotic arm

The Epson Discproducer™ is the only product of its type (that I know of) that shows ink status for each individual color using LED. It is said to have a street price of around $3500 when it starts shipping in quantity later this month. While I find that price a little high for a unit that doesn’t have a computer built it (most do in this price range) it will be interesting to see if it can live up to it’s promise of printing 1,000 discs with only a single set of ink cartridges. I’m on a waiting list for a review unit with a tentative delivery date in about 4 to 6 weeks.

You can get the datasheet and the press releases here. After the jump I have a very interesting Flash video file that gives a complete workflow of the unit. Definitely worth clicking through to watch…
