Scott Kelby’s New 7 Point System

A year ago my buddy Scott Kelby told me he had come up with a brand new way to teach Photoshop. He’d taken all of his past 15 years of experience teaching tens of thousands of people the art of producing better images in Photoshop and distilled it down to 7 basic tools. Then he took all of the feedback he had gotten over the years and came up with all the techniques people need to master using those very same tools. He then showed me how putting these two things together could make any photo better… from nature to sports, landscapes to portraits… ANY image could be better with this new system!

scott-top-3.jpgI was stunned. I told him that all of his previous success was just going to be a drop in the bucket, because this new system was going to be truly revolutionary. I must not have been the only person to tell him this because I found out later that he had applied for a patent with the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office for his Adobe Photoshop Seven Point System. How cool is that!

So I’m cruising around Amazon.com looking at new titles and what do I see… Scott’s 7 Point System for Photoshop is available for Pre-Order! I didn’t even realize he’d finished the book! But sure enough, it looks like it’s ready to come out any day now, and I can’t wait to see the final result. I then click around looking for other new titles and what do I find? That I must be the last person on earth to know that Scott has this new book about to hit the streets because it’s already listed as the #1 bestseller in the Computer and Internet section of Amazon.com. And not only is this book (that’s not even shipping yet) a bestseller, but 3 of Scott’s books hold the Top 3 spots in this category! Man, I wish I could write like this guy. He’s a machine! :-)

  1. Hi Rod,
I’m feeling very sympatico right now. I blogged about Scot’s new 7-point book as well. I actually received an email from Amazon about the pre-sale. And you are absolutely correct, Scott is a human printing press! The best part is, he never gets stale and formulated to the point where you think you are reading the same book over and over.

  2. Rod,

The way Scott is with Photoshop you are to video. I think you should make a weekly video Podcast called DV Confidential TV, the same way Scott’s team makes Photoshop User TV and Layers TV. In your podcast you can have the following included plus more… Photoshop for Video tutorials, Photoshop in motion — tips for designing motion graphics in Photoshop CS3 extended, After Effects stuff, Final Cut Pro, Premiere Pro, Encore, SoundBooth, DVD Studio Pro and Motion video tutorials. It will be nice if it’s a weekly podcast if you don’t have time then every other week or monthly. It will promote your DVPA organization at the same time, make you some money if you have advertisers and promote yourself. I’m really looking forward to you starting this.

  3. Jeff - You’re the Man! I love when you post a comment on my blog. And you said it perfectly, Scott is a Human Printing Press. I think I’m going to start calling him HPP for short. :-) Hey, I’m coming up to DC to shoot some pretty Fall colors next weekend. Any idea who I can call to get a tripod permit?

Daniel - I can’t believe it! You just perfectly defined the exact show that I’m creating. It’ll have EVERYTHING you just requested in your comment. It’s called Adobe Video Insider (AVI for short) and I hope to have an episode up in the next couple of weeks. Great minds think alike! ;-)

  4. Rod,
If you are serious about shooting in DC with a tripod, I have the numbers you need to call for the permits. I just never told Scott that because it’s fun to watch him squirm for the Park Police. I am guessing that you aren’t going to be shooting much fall color in DC though since most of it (the fall colors that is) occurs about 50 miles to the west in the Shenandoah National Forest. Seriously though, let me know if you need anything.

    Jeff
