Rod Harlan Cover Model
Posted on: September 19, 2007Have you seen Scott Kelby’s super successful Adobe Photoshop® Lightroom Book for Digital Photographers? You know what makes it so successful? I’m on the cover. Rod Harlan as a cover model is all you need to sell tens of thousands of copies. Sure… the training inside of the book is the best available on the market with plenty of insider tips and tricks and an awesome digital photography workflow explanation that has unlocked the power of Lightroom for thousands of users… but what really is selling the book (with people buying multiple copies at a time) is me on the cover. I honestly don’t know why he doesn’t put me on all of his covers! ![]()

Notice the cover model pose, pouty lips, mesmerizing gaze… this is why I am the best tech book cover model working in the industry today! (It’s a small niche group of us cover models working the tech book circuit.) BTW, I have no ties to Illinois basketball whatsoever. I just happened to be wearing that T-shirt that day because it was “comfy”. In fact, I’ve only been to the state twice and both times it was to teach at the MacDesign conference in Chicago.
So by now you’re asking yourself, “What can I do to help Scott?” First, you need to drop by his blog and leave him a comment letting him know how important it is for his book sales that he put Rod Harlan Cover Model on the cover of all of his books. They just won’t sell as well without me. It’s a statistical fact. Second, and more importantly, you need to buy his book here. Now, because I’m on the cover, I know that you’ve already bought one for yourself. But now you need to buy one for all of your friends, family and colleagues. Have you seen Scott lately? He is LITERALLY withering away before our very eyes! He’s half the man he used to be at this time last year!! He needs our help people. And the best help we can give him is to buy books with Rod Harlan Cover Model on the cover. It’s the MOST we can do.
(I’ve lost 35 pounds since this picture was taken… think I can get Scott to do a re-shoot before the next printing? Ask him for me, will you?)

OMG !! You are by far my favorite Tech Book Cover Model of all time. You are an inspiration to all of us. I’ve tried SOO many times to land the cover of a Tech Book, but I just don’t have what it takes. Please let me know when your group (Tech Book Cover Models ) will be giving their next seminar. To be honest, I only bought Scott’s book because you were on the cover. It has absolutely nothing to do with me being a wedding photographer, using LightRoom, or organizing thousands of my studio’s files. If Scott wants to be successful at this whole author thing, he should definitely put you on the cover of EVERY one of his books !! ; )
Did I mention that I’m your biggest fan ?

Dear Rod,
The only reason I bought Scott’s book was because YOU are on the cover!!!!
I would have also preferred to see in you in the bridal shot that’s on the cover instead of that hot blonde chick!
I don’t know if I’ve ever told you my true feelings for you but, Rod I love you.
Did you feel the sexual tension between us in Vegas?
I felt something, maybe my underwear was too tight.
I just have a thing for burly bearded men.
XOXO,
Dave Cuerdon

You know I carry that book with me everywhere. When I’m feeling down, I just look at that srong handsome man on the cover and I smile. BTW what is Lightroom?

Rod:
I talked with my publisher, and it’s true: the only reason the book is selling is because you’re on the cover. In fact, they did a marketing test where they printed a run of books without you on the cover, and thus far it’s only sold nine copies.
Thanks man. Like David Cuerdon, I dig you.

Gee, I did not know that Maxim Models wear real clothes, I thought they were only allowed to wear bikini’s or less?
I found your website to be quite accomadating for the blogger handicapped, or should I use the PC term “Technologically Challenged”!
I vote for the next cover that you represent and a wear a Tampa Bay Buc’s shirt.

So even if you can’t tell a book by its cover, a good book needs nothing more than a good cover…what a great innovation in publishing. And Charles Dikens spent all that time writing…what a loser.
Sorry, I can’t write anymore right now. I have to get started “writing” my next book. Rod, can you pose for me this Friday?

Hello Rod,
Here’s my email address for the notes. I took all you classes today at the Expo and am inspired to try all those things in Ps. Thanks so very much for your wonderful presentations.

Rod, thoroughly enjoyed your classes at Photoshop World in Orlando… (you owe me a pack of crackers!) Your teaching was excellent and your personality and approachability were a bonus. All those brains and now the beefcake factor too…you are the technology tri-fecta!
ok, enough buttering you up…I wasn’t really paying attention in your class when you said to do something in order to get your class notes…is this the right place to bug you? By the way, remind me again of what you were teaching on.
